Thursdvys at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, TTDI

20140604_154352TTDI is turning in to a Bangsar of its own, with the amount of cafe’s popping up. To count I have Pickle & Fig, Artisan Roast, Quar/Tet Cafe, Mukha, Souka, and so many others I’ve more or less lost track. Thursdvys are one of the many, and on one of the afternoons the boy and I were bored, we just headed in this direction.

20140604_154938 20140604_155545The first thing that struck me was their quirky design. They retain the rustic theme many cafes these days are adopting, but they opted for less clutter. Instead, the plain unpainted cement walls worked well with the wide window, black framed windows they had.

20140604_155304Like many other cafe’s, their menu was closing at 4PM, but the boy made it just in time for us to place our orders for lunch. The time the kitchen closes is perhaps one of the most frustrating thing for me through all this cafe hopping. I tend to eat my lunch around 3PM, but most of their kitchens are closed by then.

20140604_154938Luckily enough, we were there just 10 minutes before they closed their kitchen, and made orders for our starving tummies before heading to rock climb.

20140604_155059The boy’s usual coffee, a 9oz ristretto plus milk, which in general is a… cappucino? I dunno, since I’m no coffee person. But the boy is, and he said the coffee was good, so just take his word for it. 😛

20140604_155829His order of lunch, their lamb spaghetti, was top notch. It looks simple, but the pasta was al dente and tossed in just the right amount of chilli oil without it getting too spicy. The pasta was topped with chunks of lamb and sun-dried tomatoes, and the harmony of flavors was beautiful!

20140604_160212My order of the smoked salmon omelette. Usually when I order this, only the egg would come, so imagine my surprise when a plate full of sauteed mushrooms, side salad and a croissant showed up.

The egg was fluffy, and the croissant very buttery and delicious. The saute mushrooms were a little bland, as was the plain salad, but all in all not too bad.

20140604_161256The chiller was also partially filled when we got there, with plenty of their signature Strawberry Cheesecake, but only one of the pudding and trifle each. Tempted already by their  very good service, we ended up getting a jar of banana pudding.

It’s some sort like a trifle, with cream layered between chunks of banana and sponge cake, and topped off with some cocoa powder. The taste was harmonious, the soft sponge cake offsetting the cloying taste of whip cream, making it a delicious combination.

Do check out the kitchen closing times if you intend to visit any of these new cafe’s, but do enjoy their food, and especially their splendid coffee!
